Proform is undoubtedly the most well known treadmill name in North America. One of their more popular models is the Proform 1000 Sport Treadmill.
At $649 online (Regular: $999) it's both affordable and offers some decent features for an economy buy.
So is the Proform 1000 Sport treadmill the right fit for you? Here's a quick review to help you decide:
Treadmill Stats:
Price: $649 (Regular $999)
Motor: 1.75 HP Motor
Speed: 0 -10 MPH
Incline: 0 -10%
Treadbelt: 20 x 50"
Folding: Yes
Strengths:
10 year motor warranty - A good motor warranty is important since the motor is often the most expensive part of the treadmill to fix. This is a decent motor warranty - not the best out there but not the worst either. For a treadmill at this price however, it's better than a lot of choices out there.
Dual-Grip EKG™ Heart Rate Monitor - Stay in your target heart rate zone with the grip heart rate monitor. Just grip the handlebars in front of the console for a heart rate reading while you workout.
Large, Green-Tinted LCD Console - The LCD display shows your speed, time, distance, pace, incline, calories burned and pulse. This console also has a 5x7 workout matrix that displays your workout graphically.
6 Personal Trainer Workouts, 2 Heart Rate Workouts - 6 personal trainer workouts automatically adjust the incline and speed of your treadmill, each based on an aerobic, weight-loss or performance goal. There are also 2 heart rate workouts which help you stay in your target heart rate zone by increasing or lowering the speed when you need to raise or lower your heart rate.
Weaknesses:
The belt on the Proform 1000 Sport is only 50" long which means this is a very short belt. If you're over 5'8" you may feel like you're going to fall off the treadmill.
Also, the Proform 1000S just isn't built for heavier users or frequent runners. Few treadmills under $1000 have the cushioning or stability to keep you safe from injury.
If you're 200+ pounds or plan on using your treadmill to run, protect your joints and back by investing a little more in a solid, stable treadmill with quality cushioning, motor and higher unit weight like a Sole.
Overall Conclusion: Not Recommended
The Proform 1000 Sport has some decent feautures like a 10 year motor warranty, 8 built in programs, workout fan and heart rate monitor. And you really can't argue with this price.
However there are newer Proform models that give you more for your money in terms of belt length, warranty, motor power and workout programs. We would recommend these first.
If you're a frequent treadmill user, heavier individual or a runner, invest a little more and find a higher quality treadmill built to withstand the stress and keep you safe from injury like a Sole.
