Treadmills In Canada

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 11/10/10

I get a lot of people asking me where they can research and buy treadmills online in Canada. While Canadians don't have the kind of online selection or dealers that Americans have, they do have options - with more and more becoming available every year (as sellers get more 'with it')

One of the problems in the past with U.S. dealers selling to Canada has been figuring out all of our lovely tax issues.

And unlike in the U.S. where - for the most part - you can save on sales tax if you buy online, you have no such luck in Canada. But on the plus side, you can usually get free shipping if you buy online in Canada. Plus you also have a wider selection of brands and models to choose from than you do at your local store.

If you're looking to buy a treadmill in Canada see our Treadmill Canada page which lists all the current places you can buy a treadmill in Canadian dollars.

New Treadmill Models Now Out

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 11/08/10

It's that time of year again buyers - the time when most manufacturers release their new treadmill models for 2011.

Why is this a big deal?

Because you get to see the latest in treadmill technology which means new gadgets and the coolest fitness tools.

Also, newer models often (not always) pack more value into them than older models. For example the new Sole F80 treadmill comes with a longer 60" belt (vs the older F80 model which carried a 55" belt) and a sleeker, more advanced console (for the same price as the older F80).

And Nordic Track has introduced their new C 900 treadmill which offers a high 15% incline and a strong 3.0 HP motor - for under $1000 (currently).

They're also introducing several new treadmills over the next few weeks which actually have a built-in web browser so you can surf the net or check your emails while walking.

We'll be posting reviews as these treadmill become available for sale over the next few weeks so stay tuned and check back here!

Nordic Track Elite 7500 Treadmill on Sale - Save $1500 For A Short Time

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 10/01/10

Nordic Track has put their Elite 7500 treadmill on sale - for an incredible price: $1199 with Free Shipping.

Since it has been running around $2699 for the past 3 months, this is an incredible sale. I'm not sure how long it will be listed at this price at the Manufacturer's site since it's an inventory sale. Nordic Track usually puts the price back up when they get low on inventory.

The Elite 7500 is one of the more popular Nordic track treadmills with more substance than the starter models. It gives you a strong 3.5 HP motor, extra long 60" belt, adjustable cushioning and iPod dock with speakers.

The icing on the cake is the 7" Flat Screen TV. This treadmill has a lot on it to keep you entertained while you workout.

Why There's No "Best Treadmill" That's Right For Everyone

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 06/22/10

A lot of people email me asking what I think is the best treadmill. My answer usually surprises them.

See, while there are definitely best treadmills in terms machines that give you more value for your money than others do (see our Best Treadmill Buys for that), there isn't one universal treadmill that is best for everyone.

For example, the best treadmill for a runner that runs an hour every day is not the best treadmill for an elderly grandmother who only plans on walking for 30 minutes 3 times a week.

It really starts with you.

What do you need? How much are you planning to use your treadmill? What kind of use will it get (heavy, light, multiple or single users, etc.)? What is your price range?

What kinds of features do you want? For example, many people love treadmills with iPod docks and speaker systems because they can listen to their favorite tunes as they walk. But others don't really care about this since they always watch TV while walking or running on their treadmill.

You might be a goal-oriented person who really needs to track your fitness progress with software like iFit Live (which you can find on Nordictrack and some Proform models) or a fitness journal like you find on the Livestrong models.

So when looking for the best home treadmill, start with what you want and who you are. Then see what's out there that fits the bill. This way, you're guaranteed to find the best-fit treadmill for you.

Buy A Treadmill - Help The Environment?

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 06/09/10

One of the most upstart, promising new treadmill brands on the market is Yowza. Headed up by the former founder of SmoothFitness, Yowza sells 4 treadmills made in part from recycled plastics, paints and other raw materials.

Yowza is the only company we know of that is committed to a more green manufacturing process. Plus the treadmills themselves are pretty impressive with sleek design, strong motor powers, solid decks and even iPod docks with hi-fidelity speakers.

If you're interested in buying a treadmill - and helping the environment - you may want to review Yowza treadmills.

Buying A Treadmill - How to Save Yourself A Huge Headache

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 06/08/10

Buying a treadmill is a great investment in your health. You can use it to lose weight, tone up and work off the stresses of your busy day.

The fun part of buying a treadmill is looking at all of your options. It can be fun to shop and see what's out there - especially these days when treadmills are built more like your own personal fitness studio than just a standard piece of fitness equipment.

But there's one thing that many people may overlook when shopping for a treadmill - the process of actually getting it into their home.

Many online dealers will offer you free shipping - which is great since a lot of stores charge upwards of $150+ for shipping. However this often only includes shipping to the front of your home. You're then responsible for moving the treadmill into your home.

You may think this is easy however it can cause a huge headache.

For example, I was moving last week and was determined to move my monster Smooth treadmill with me. However I felt a small twinge of guilt (just a small one) as I watched 4 strong guys struggle to get this tank of a treadmill into my new home. Needless to say I had to promise never to move again (or at least leave the treadmill behind).

Treadmills can be heavy - which is a good thing since a heavy treadmill feels more stable when you run on it than a lightweight machine. But if you have to move it into your house yourself, you can end up in a world of pain - even if you have several strong friends to help you.

One way to get around this is to pay a bit extra to get inside delivery (which many dealers do offer you.) This usually costs a bit extra but most people feel it's worth it.

And every once in a while you can find a deal that gives you free inside delivery too. For example, as of this writing, Nordictrack is offering free inside delivery on the Commercial 1500 and Commercial 1750 treadmills. They'll deliver it inside to the room of your choice for you, saving you a huge headache.

So while it's up to you, if you want to really enjoy your treadmill and save yourself a backache, you may want to opt for an inside delivery. It can make the whole buying a treadmill process so much less stressful.

Treadmill Workouts - Your Options For Treadmill Workout Plans

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 06/02/10

If you've had your treadmill for a while, chances are you may be getting a bit bored. You want to spice things up a bit and give your body a challenge.

So what can you do?

Well, you have lots of options. Depending on your treadmill you can either build your own customized workout by incorporating handweights, incline intervals or even slowing down and doing lunges at a very low speed.

You can buy treadmill walking videos like those by Leslie Sansone and set your TV/DVD player up in front of your treadmill to watch it.

If you have a Nordic Track or Proform treadmill with iFit card reader you can buy a new iFit card with new workouts, including ones designed by Jillian Michaels of the Biggest Loser TV Show fame.

You can even download specialized treadmill workouts where a personal trainer talks you through your workout on your iPod or Mp3 player.

So you have different options depending on your preferences.  To read more about where to find different treadmill workout options click here.

Dog Treadmills - What to Know about using a treadmill with your Dog

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 06/01/10

A lot of people are looking for dog treadmills these days.

With people's hectic lifestyles, many people want a dog but don't have the time to walk their dog for an hour to two hours every day. Plus throw in bad weather and your pooch can end up climbing the walls (or eating your couch) out of sheer frustration.

Dog treadmills can help to alleviate some of that frustration and drain some of your dog's excess energy. Unlike human treadmills, canine treadmills are built specifically for dogs, lower to the ground with side barriers to protect your pooch from falling and injuring themselves.

Putting your puppy on the treadmill every day will help drain excess energy and can cut down on home destroying accidents (which in and of themselves can be very expensive).

However, it's still not as beneficial as an outdoor walk which helps establish you as the pack leader and gives your pooch lots of new smells to keep him mentally stimulated. If you're really busy however and still want to make sure your dog gets a healthy dose of exercise, a doggie treadmill is a great tool to use.

NordicTrack Incline Trainer X3 - $50 Off

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 05/19/10

Nordic Track has dropped the price on their X3 incline Trainer. It has been sitting at $1399 for the past month but they've recently dropped the price by $50 to $1349 with Free Shipping.

The big advantage with NordicTrack incline trainers is that you can get from 0 - 40% incline. So the trainer can do double duty as both a treadmill and high incline trainer.

The advantage to high inclines is that you increase your calories burned exponentially. What most people don't realize is that it actually is more beneficial to increase your incline than to increase your speed on a treadmill.

For example, when I do a leisurely 2.0 MPH pace at a 15% incline the treadmill tells me I'm burning almost 500 calories an hour. But when I speed up and do about 3.0 MPH at 0 - 2% I'm looking at burning about 300 calories an hour.

The X3 is the most affordable of all the incline trainer models - and it also has an iFit card reader (instead of iFit LIVE). Some people prefer an iFit card reader since iFit Live requires you to have wireless internet in your home to get the full iFit benefits.

Best Proform Treadmill - The Proform Power 995

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 05/12/10

Proform treadmills are some of the most popular treadmill brands on the market. Not surprising since the Proform name has been around for years and they have so many models on the market it's hard to miss them.

People often email asking what I think is the best Proform treadmill. While this changes as new models are released and Proform raises or lowers prices, the current best Proform treadmill value is hands down the Power 995 treadmill

The Power series of treadmills is Proform's attempt to compete with a higher grade of treadmill brand (for example Sole, Bowflex and Smooth). So the Power series is built to be more rugged with stronger components and a few little extras you won't find on other brands.

The Power 995 gives you a strong 3.5 HP motor with extra long 60" belt.

You also get iFit Live - which lets you connect the treadmill to the Internet if you have wireless in your home and download new workouts. Another bonus is the iPod docking station that lets you plug your MP3 or iPod in and play your favorite tunes through the console speakers.

Considering all of this, at the current price point of $999, this makes the Proform Power 995 one of the best treadmills under $1000.

Just to give you a comparison the Proform Power 990 treadmill is currently priced at $1599 with only a 3.0 HP motor and a 55" deck.

However be aware that this price probably won't last. Proform often plays around with their prices and the Power 995 can jump from $999 to $1999. At $999, the Power 995 is a great value. At $1999 however you'll probably want to look at a stronger brand like Sole.

You can get the Power 995 treadmill direct from the manufacturer which also lets you read user reviews and detailed specs before you buy.

Sole Treadmills Discounts - What You Need To Know About Getting a "Discount" On A Sole Treadmill

by Treadmill Reviews Editor on 04/21/10

Click Here For Full Article on Sole Treadmills Discounts

One thing people are looking for are Sole Treadmills Discounts. This makes sense as some brands like Smooth are dropping their prices and offering great discounts.

However Sole is different. They don't give discounts. That's just not their brand image. They are a luxury treadmill brand.

It's kind of like BMW, Chanel, or Ferrari - you don't expect to get coupons or discounts on these brands. Sole has worked very hard to distinguish themselves as a premium, high quality commercial treadmill. So don't expect them to tarnish that image and start giving out discount coupons (at least not at this time).

According to my sources, Sole has worked very hard to keep their prices the same over the last 5 years - even though manufacturing costs have skyrocketed up. That in itself is a form of built-in discount.

And if you buy direct from the Manufacturer,  you also get Free Shipping and pay $0 sales tax (in most States). So that can save you around $200.

The only other way to get a discount on a Sole is to buy second hand. And there are 2 main problems with that:

#1 You void the warranty - Sole won't honor the warranty on a second buyer. So if you get home and the treadmill breaks, you're out the money to fix it, discount gone.

#2 You have no way to tell if the treadmill has been properly cared for, had food spilled on it, etc. So you could run into technical problems if the treadmill has not been taken care of - see point #1 about voided warranty.

So those are basically the ways to get a 'discount' on a Sole treadmill. There are lots of sites that advertise they have coupons or Sole treadmills discounts - but if you actually go there, they really don't have a thing.

I've seen other stores that drop the price by $100 - but tack on a $200 shipping charge at the end of the purchase. So you're really paying $100 more than if you just bought direct. Sorry - if things change I'll let you know.
