Strengths:
Hydra Suspension™ Adjustable Cushioning - This cushioning system is unique to the 9 series of Smooth treadmills. You can adjust the cushioning to 12 different levels.
The suspension lets you choose the softness of where the ball of your foot lands while keeping the place where your foot takes off firmer. This is an amazing feature to have since various runners often prefer different levels of running surfaces.
400 lb User Weight Capacity - This is one of the highest user weight capacities you'll find in a home treadmill. Along with a 290 lb machine weight and commercial grade deck it makes for a very stable feeling treadmill. The 9.35 can take a lot of use (and abuse) and still hold up quite well.
Commercial Grade Deck - The deck is triple laminated and reversible - so if you wear out the deck, you just flip it over and keep going - very similar to many commercial treadmills. It also helps to extend the life of your treadmill.
Motion Control on Handrails - This is a rare feature on a treadmill. To speed up you wave your hand over the motion control on one handrail and to slow down you wave your hand over the other handrail. While most people will like the feature, it's especially handy for taller runners.
(Sometimes when you have long legs, leaning close to the console to adjust the speed can result in you running up against the treadmill hood - depending on how the frame is built).
Excellent Warranty - With a lifetime motor and frame warranty, 5 years on parts and 1 year on labor, this is an excellent warranty. It should give you some peace of mind that your investment is covered.
Weaknesses:
No serious weaknesses. It would have been nice to see a longer belt at this price point but most users should be ok. Taller users may want to upgrade to a 60" belt found on several other similarly priced Smooth units.
Overall Conclusion:
The Smooth 9.35 treadmill has a lot going for it. It's got a great solid commercial machine feel and adds some little extras like motion control on the side rails and 9 different user profiles.
We really like the 12 levels of cushioning - which means different users can choose different levels of surface feel.
Overall a great treadmill for runners and walkers alike.
