1) Music Port for iPod With Built In Console Speakers - Plug in your iPod or Mp3 player and listen to your favorite music through the built in sound system. This is a fun feature to have that can make your workouts more enjoyable. And the 2.0 Intermix Acoustics sound system is one of ICON's most advanced speaker systems - the sound is much better than many similar treadmills with music ports.
2) iFit Workout Card Compatible For Interactive Coaching Workouts - iFit workout cards offer 8 weeks of personal trainer workouts (per card).
You insert the card directly into the treadmill's console and the program will automatically adjust your speed and incline to fit the workout's goals. The voice of a personal trainer talks to you through the speakers, guiding you through the workout.
3) Strong 2.25 HP Motor With Lifetime Warranty - This is a decent motor power at this price point. Plus it's covered by a lifetime motor which gives you added protection since the motor can be the most expensive part of the treadmill to fix.
4) Backlit Console Makes Workout Stats Easier To Read - Many consoles on economy treadmills can be difficult to read. The 980 comes with a bright backlit easy to read console with a wide viewing angle window so no matter what height you are, it's easy to see your workout stats. There's also an 8 x 32 workout matrix that displays your workout graphically.
5) Workout Intensity Control - With this feature you can make your workout more or less intense with the touch of a button. Just raise or lower your intensity, and the workout program will make the changes for you.
6) 16 More Built-in Workouts - These built-in workouts (separate those found on iFit cards) automatically adjust the incline and speed of your treadmill, depending on your goal - aerobic, weight loss or performance.
Weaknesses:
The lifetime motor warranty is great but other parts and labor are only covered for 90 days - so you might want to buy extra warranty coverage on checkout to cover yourself. Also, this is still an entry level treadmill - so if you're a runner or want a bit more substance, you may want to go with a higher end Nordic Track or Sole.

The console is well laid out and easy to read. You get a decent motor power with lifetime motor warranty, iFit built in workouts along with iFit card reader if you want to add even more workouts.
Plus the iPod port with sound system is also popular with buyers as it can make your workouts a lot more fun. And the sound system is also an upgrade - offering clearer sound than older models.
Although it's not a commercial grade treadmill, for an economy unit the 980 offers good value.
