Strengths:
iFit® Challenge Training Center - This is a very cool concept we haven't seen in a treadmill before - the iFit® Challenge Training Center does a built-in fitness assessment and then gives you a monthly exercise program to help reach your goals. It also comes with 3 Healthy Eating Guides, including a 1400, 1800 and 2200 calorie meal plan.
Roomy 20 x 55" Belt - This is a very large belt for a treadmill at this price point. Plus it has a decent motor power to back it up.
Decent Warranty - Although it's not the best, the 12 year motor warranty (with 1 year on parts and labor) is still a definite improvement over older Proform models. And compared to other treadmills at this price point, it's pretty decent.
24 Interactive Built-In Workouts - It's hard to get bored with this many built in programs. You can choose upper body, lower body and full body crosstraining workouts. The interactive cross-training coach controls the speed and incline of your treadmill, and occasionally prompts you to do some strength training exercises to optimize your workout results.
Attractive Console with Grafixx™ Display - This display is easy to read and actually quite advanced for an economy treadmill. The console can visually show your heart beat or an animated figure walking, jogging or running through your workout. The console also displays all training information for the iFit Monthly Challenge.
Weaknesses:
We would have liked to see a higher speed and incline limits, but for an economy treadmill this is pretty much the norm.
And while the Proform 5.5 CrossTrainer treadmill has some great things going for it, it's still an economy treadmill. It probably won't stand up very well to heavy use and we would not recommended it for runners or heavier users.
Overall Conclusion:
The Proform 5.5 CrossTrainer Treadmill offers several unique fitness tools that can help you reach your fitness goals. We really like the iFit® Challenge Training Center with built-in fitness assessment and customized workout plans as well as the 24 built in crosstrainer workouts.
Keep in mind however that the treadmill itself is fairly average. (At this price point, you can't expect a commercial grade machine.) It's not recommended for runners or heavier users.
But overall if your budget is limited and want a treadmill with some cool fitness tools, the 5.5 Crosstrainer treadmill is a great option.
